This mission, the Alamo, from the Spanish word for cottonwood tree, was established in the year 1718.

Esta missão, o Álamo, palavra espanhola para árvore de choupo, foi estabelecida no ano de 1718.

That was the same year that our lovely city was founded by the Spanish expeditionary force on the site of an Indian burial mound.

This is one of my personal favorite parts of the tour.

The mainstay of the Alamo diet is corn.

Corn can be prepared in many ways. It can be boiled, shucked, creamed, or in this case, dried.

Corn can also be used to make tortillas.

Upon this battle in 1836, 200 Texas volunteers including such heroes as Davy Crockett, Bill Travis, and Jim Bowie fought off an onslaught of 4,000 Mexican troops under the command of General Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna.
