So, this is a game I like to play with three and four-year-olds when I teach them about verbs,

which is an action word of something someone is doing.

So, this is called "charades."

And I have a basket, and I have a bunch of pictures.

And so, my students are all sitting around me, and we're going to play this game.

I have one student draw a card out of my basket.

And they will look at their card and they're going to think about it.

And then if it's really tricky to think about, I'm going to whisper to them,

And again I'm emphasizing the verb and the action of "running" in my sentence.

So, I'll have a new friend come. They'll use my basket, they'll pick up a card, and they'll look at it.

And this one's a little tricky: "swimming."

So, I'll whisper to them if they need help.

And so they'll put it down, and then they'll get their arms swimming.

We'll go through all of these words, and although this is very fun and active,

what we're really doing is using these "action words" in a sentence.

We're practicing verbs.

So, there's three things to remember.

Give them the time to look at the picture and decide what they're doing.

And then give them time to act it out... they sing, they run, they dance.

And then give the friends time to guess what it is and say the whole sentence.
