Abraão Testado

Abraham answered: "Here I am, Lord."

Abraão respondeu: "Eis-me aqui, Senhor."

The Lord said:

O Senhor disse:

Go get Isaac, your only son, the one you dearly love.

Vai buscar Isaque, teu único filho, a quem tanto amas.

Take him to the land of Moriah, and I will show you a mountain where you must sacrifice him to me on the fires of an altar.

Leva-o à terra de Moriá, e eu te mostrarei um monte onde deverás sacrificá-lo para mim sobre as chamas de um altar.

So Abraham got up early the next morning and chopped wood for the fire.

Então Abraão levantou-se cedo na manhã seguinte e cortou lenha para o fogo.

He put a saddle on his donkey and left with Isaac and two servants for the place where God had told him to go.

Ele selou seu jumento e partiu com Isaque e dois servos para o lugar que Deus lhe havia indicado.

Three days later, Abraham looked off in the distance and saw the place.

Três dias depois, Abraão olhou à distância e viu o lugar.

He told his servants:

Ele disse aos seus servos:

Stay here with the donkey, while my son and I go over there to worship.

Fiquem aqui com o jumento, enquanto meu filho e eu vamos até ali adorar.

We will come back.

Nós voltaremos.

Abraham put the wood on Isaac's shoulder,

Abraão colocou a lenha sobre o ombro de Isaque,

but he carried the hot coals and the knife.

mas ele mesmo carregou as brasas e a faca.

As the two of them walked along, Isaac said:

Enquanto caminhavam, Isaque disse:

Father, we have the coals and the wood,

Pai, nós temos as brasas e a lenha,

but where is the lamb for the sacrifice?

mas onde está o cordeiro para o sacrifício?

My son, Abraham answered, God will provide the lamb.

Meu filho, respondeu Abraão, Deus proverá o cordeiro.

The two of them walked on, and when they reached the place that God had told him about,

Os dois seguiram caminhando, e quando chegaram ao lugar que Deus lhe havia indicado,

Abraham built an altar and placed the wood on it.

Abraão construiu um altar e colocou a lenha sobre ele.

Next, he tied up his son and put him on the wood.

Em seguida, amarrou seu filho e colocou-o sobre a lenha.

He then took the knife and got ready to kill his son.

Ele então pegou a faca e preparou-se para sacrificar seu filho.

But the Lord's angel shouted from heaven:

Mas o anjo do Senhor gritou do céu:

Abraham, Abraham.

Abraão, Abraão.

"Here I am", he answered.

"Eis-me aqui", respondeu ele.

Don't hurt the boy or harm him in any way, the angel said.

Não faças mal ao menino, nem lhe causes qualquer dano, disse o anjo.

Now I know that you truly obey God, because you were willing to offer him your only son.

Agora sei que tu verdadeiramente obedece a Deus, porque estavas disposto a lhe oferecer teu único filho.

Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in the bushes.

Abraão olhou para cima e viu um carneiro preso pelos chifres nos arbustos.

So he took the ram and sacrificed it in place of his son.

Então ele pegou o carneiro e o sacrificou em lugar de seu filho.

Abraham named that place, "The Lord Will Provide".

Abraão chamou aquele lugar de "O Senhor Proverá".

And even now people say: "On the mountain of the Lord it will be provided".

E até hoje as pessoas dizem: "No monte do Senhor será providenciado".

The Lord's angel called out from heaven a second time.

O anjo do Senhor chamou do céu uma segunda vez.

You were willing to offer the Lord your only son, and so he makes you this solemn promise,

Tu estavas disposto a oferecer ao Senhor teu único filho, e por isso ele te faz esta promessa solene,

I will bless you and give you such a large family,

eu te abençoarei e te darei uma família tão grande,

that someday your descendants will be more numerous than the stars in the sky

que um dia teus descendentes serão mais numerosos que as estrelas do céu

or the grains of sand along the beach.

ou os grãos de areia ao longo da praia.

They will defeat their enemies and take over the cities where their enemies live.

Eles derrotarão seus inimigos e tomarão as cidades onde seus inimigos vivem.

You have obeyed me, and so you and your descendants

Tu me obedeceste, e por isso tu e teus descendentes

will be a blessing to all nations on earth.

serão uma bênção para todas as nações da terra.
